Readers will be aware that the Parish Council has been working for some time on a project to improve Warlingham Green through upgrading its roads, pavements and street furniture as well as the arrangements on the central green itself, to provide the “complete makeover” requested by the Parish Plan completed in 2008.

During recent discussions on this project it was suggested that it would be very helpful to understand from local businesses how they see their enterprises evolving in future years, and what plans, aspirations and issues they have. This would enable the Parish Council to take this information into account not only in respect of the Green Improvement Project, but also in other areas and activities in which it is involved, such as contributing to the District Council’s planning policy on the balance of retail units, restaurants and other possible uses of buildings on The Green, and influencing the activities that take place on and around The Green.

It has therefore been agreed to form a working group of parish councillors and local residents with relevant expertise to conduct a commercial review of Warlingham Village Centre. It is intended that this group will contact each business to discuss its views and complete a questionnaire, so that a report can be produced for the Parish Council by the autumn.

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Wednesday 10 January at 7.30 in Warlingham Library.
