This is my first article for CR6 after succeeding Cllr Simon Morrow as chair of the Parish Council on 7th May. Simon has done a brilliant job as chair over the past three years and will be a hard act to follow. He will however continue to be an active member of the Council.
We were very pleased this month to welcome Cllr Geoff Kempster onto the Parish Council. Geoff was elected on 2 May as a new parish councillor for Warlingham East. He replaces Annie Andrews who stepped down from the Council earlier this year.
Geoff is a longstanding resident of Farleigh Road who has recently retired from a career in engineering. He brings welcome new experience to the Council. Last year he became Warlingham’s first Community First Responder, giving emergency assistance before the ambulance can get there. He is also a Public Governor for the SECAmb NHS Foundation Trust, representing the interests of the public in the operation of our local ambulance service.
We had a great turn-out at the Annual Parish Meeting on 14th May. Steve Davies from Tandridge District Council gave an update on the local plan, and our County Councillor, Becky Rush, spoke about a number of issues including the changes to the Bond Road dump and the proposed relocation of Warlingham Village Primary School. I gave an account of the achievements of the Parish Council over the past year, and there were lively and challenging questions from residents.
There will be another opportunity to quiz parish councillors at the Warlingham Fair on Saturday 15th June. One or more of us will be there for the entire day, so do pop along to our stand to have a chat.
Reporting potholes is one of the many things that parish councillors do, but anyone can do this. To make it easier for residents to report potholes, we’ve added a link to the Parish Council website. I hope many of you will use this service.
