Surrey County Council is currently consulting on a proposal to close the Childrens Centre in Tithepit Shaw Lane, which provides an important service to local families.

The Parish Council has responded (click here to see response) to this by voicing its concerns at the withdrawal of a local facility which provides support for all families but most vitally for those struggling to cope. It questions how easily families without cars will be able to access the remaining Centre in Caterham, and whether that Centre will be able to cope with the demand following the closure of not only Warlingham but the Centres in Hurst Green and Lingfield too.

The Council also queries the strategy of moving away from a universal support service to one that only provides intensive support for the most needy families, given the benefits all families can derive from the activities, help and companionship provided by the Centres, and their role in addressing issues before they become serious.

Tandridge Council has written to Surrey expressing its strong opposition to the closure of three out of four Centres in the District, and the Parish Council hopes that all concerned Warlingham residents will also make their views known to Surrey before the consultation ends on 4 January.
