We advised residents in the November CR6 that it had been agreed with Tandridge Council that grassed bunds would be installed around School Common to prevent another gypsy incursion, but that a date for the work had not yet been decided, as agreement was required from the landowner, the Diocese of Southwark.

The Diocese has now approved the works and a site meeting has been held with the
contractor who will do the job to agree the details. The bund will be about 2 foot 6 inches
high and run between the trees, and will be seeded so that it will grass over quickly. It is also intended that the bund will be planted with bulbs at the appropriate time by the Parish Council. In order to enable access for maintenance and Village events , two low level high security gates will be installed at either end of the Common in positions that minimise their visual impact.

The work cannot be carried out until the ground is hard enough, but it is hoped that this will be before the end of March. The cost is being shared between the Parish, District and County councils with some donations expected to meet the cost of the second gate requested by the Warlingham Events team.
